Abstract

MEDITWIN is building a European, sovereign platform of digital twins for healthcare. A virtual twin is a representation of one or more physiological systems — cells, tissues and organs together fulfilling a function — generated and updated from a person’s own health data: imaging, blood work, genetic data, medical records.

The point is decision support. By combining modelling, artificial intelligence and medical knowledge, these twins aim to represent the patient’s state, predict its evolution and test the effect of candidate treatments before choosing one. They also give the various specialties following the same patient a shared representation, where coordination today rests on specialised documents.

The programme focuses on the three areas where chronic disease weighs heaviest in healthy life-years lost: cardiology, neurology and oncology, targeting prevention as much as treatment.
