Abstract
Mathematical modelling of biological systems at several scales: the cell, the cell assembly and the tissue. S-keloid aims to model the role of the mechanical and inflammatory factors surrounding the cells, and the interfaces between healthy and pathological tissue, in the abnormal development of keloid fibrosis. Three-dimensional experimental cell models will be cultured under mechanical and inflammatory constraints reproducing the environment of keloid tissue in vivo, and a mathematical model of these systems will be proposed. Starting from tissue-scale experiments and through a multi-scale approach, the mechanical stress fields will be incorporated into the 3D mathematical model. Identifying, optimising and then applying the parameters across scales will ensure that the models are realistic and that their predictions of the progression of keloid disease are quantitatively and qualitatively sound.
