Abstract

The aim of this project is to contribute to the development of new directions in control theory for partial differential equations, motivated by models arising in ecology and biology. Two aspects are of particular interest. The first concerns the constraints that can be tolerated on the controls and/or the controlled trajectories — positivity constraints, for instance, which arise naturally when the state models a temperature. The second concerns controllability and stabilisation for problems involving non-local operators: integral operators in space, so as to account for phenomena depending on the total mass of a population; delay or memory terms, as in the visco-elastic fluids often used to model blood; and, more generally, models described by systems coupling hyperbolic and parabolic effects.
